Hello everyone.I'm new here and just wanted to ask some questions on enlisted crewchiefs/aircrew in the USMC.I'm wondering if anyone can give me some idea of what it's like to be one and also how long/hard the schools to become one are. Also, what kind of stuff do they look for in a class II flight physical? I've heard that they disqualify lots of potential aircrew for even the slightest medical reasons. Thanks in advance for the replies!

Hands down the best enlisted field there is, My old guy knowledge is pretty outdated so all I can tell you is give school 110% and you'll be okay. Expect to be poked, prodded, and squeezed like MEPS times 2 at your flight physical.

Aircrew school

Enlisted aircrew school at NAS Pensacola is about 6 weeks long and consists mainly of PT, swimming, and aviation physiology training. Swim quals start off easy with tread and float and work up to a full flight gear swim, the helo dunker, bay operations, and heeds bottle training. You'll later take a "flight" in the low-pressure chamber up to 25,000 feet and experience hypoxia. Aircrew also receive classes on first aid, survival equipment, and the aforementioned aviation physio. At the end of training, aircrew select (or are assigned) an aircraft and report to a Marine squadron for initial platform training. And yes, enlisted aircrew truly is the best MOS out there.

Looks Lost

Resurrecting this thread to help my brother's friend. He is interested in enlisting and wants to go Aircrew (not pilot or NFO). I'm not sure how the enlisted recruitment side works other than taking the ASVAB and running some PFTs. Can he be guaranteed a certain community of MOS's before showing up to Boot Camp based on ASVAB score? Or is it a complete crap shoot? (a la 'congratulations, son, you're a ____ now!')

From what I've Googled- he can possibly swing a guaranteed spot in the 6xxx/7xxx's but I don't trust many things that come from these 'joining-the-military' websites (other than AW). And most of my prior-enlisted buddies don't really know how it works either. They, like me, are just happy to be here.
