Enlisted to OCS. How long for selection?

Hello, I'm an Active Duty RP2 and all set to apply to OCS next Thursday. What is the best means to submit? I've read you can mail, fax, or email your application. Is there a preferred method?

Also, in reference to the actual thread title, how long will it take to hear back? I'm a bit old for applying to OCS in hopes of flight school, so I'm hoping to leave ASAP.

Thanks!

RP

You are applying too early, the next boards aren't until Feb 2013 at the earliest, submit about November, it should be emailed to CNRC, they no longer take mail/fax correspondence.

Woah, really? I'm really out of the loop then. Where do you get information regarding upcoming boards?

Once a year a schedule is put out to all NRD's, then it is adjusted via emails from CNRC to the NRD's.

Not sure what you want to put in for besides aviation but Pilot/NFO/SWO should all be open in Feb, most everything else is closed.

Thanks for the great gouge sir. We miss a lot of information as it trickles from CRNC to the CCC in the fleet.

I'm a Chief, now retired but I have many friends at the NRD and stop by there once a week since I have nothing else going on. I very well may get hired on as a GS at the NRD soon.

Many times there is no info going to CNRC to the fleet, best bet is find the closest NRD and find an OR that can keep you in the loop, I did that for many fleet guys, the key is to find an NRD whose COC keeps their OR's up to date, if you can tell me where you are at I can tell you whether or not the NRD closest to you does that or not.

To NavyOffRec, Sir, I'm an ABH2 and am applying for Supply Corps., when is the right time to submit my package? My CCC aren't really that helpful in my command, I will be having my board for my appraisal on the 27th with the supply officers and some commanders. :)

At this point I would say put off that appraisal board. Supply for FY13 has a goal of 30, and currently between those issued Final Select and thos pro rec yes, there are 54, so nearly twice as many people as billets, so they have CLOSED supply for FY13, that means no boards.

If you wanted to go SWO I would say do the board in October and then submit to see if the board actually happens in February, currently it is listed as TBD. I mention SWO not knowing if there is an age issue.

FYI, if you send in the application and the board doesn't happen you application is archived and you have to redo the entire thing.

Your GPA is ok, your ASTB is ok, those few picked up Supply from the hundreds of applicants last time generally had high GPA's.

thank you robav8r!
I really wanna do supply though, however sir, (NavyOffRec) If ever I wait for the next FY, when are they going to accept applications and packages? I have everything set except that, nobody is informing me, (my command) about the dates of boards, etc... I really appreciate it sir...

If the goals remain the same for FY14 and if those currently pro rec'd turn into Final Selects you could see the TBD board dates become cancelled and the next actual Supply board be in Jan 2014, if the goals increase or many of the pro rec'd drop off you could see a board around mid 2013.

be aware Supply is one of the 2 designators that historically has the lowest acceptance rates, for a while it was under 10%, so you should figure out what is more important, being a Naval Officer or being a Supply Officer, if it is being a Naval Officer you should be applying to anything you can, when it is open, if it is being a Supply Officer then you should be prepared to have no regrets if you are not picked up.
