Extreme class date change after injury

About a week before beginning with the FEB 14 class I started to experience some pain during and after running. I went straight to the doctor and he said it was Peroneal tendonitis, a common runners injury that just required 2-3 weeks of rest. I contacted my OR, faxed him the paperwork, and he said he would get my date shifted to allow for the healing time. Since then I've been calling him a few times a week for an update, hoping for either the MAR 7 or MAR 28 classes, as this has already been over a year process for me. I came to find out today that my new date is AUG 8, close to six months from now. When I asked him about the possibility of a sooner date, and that I have already gotten back out running with no pain, he told me to make a follow up appointment with the doctor, fax him the paperwork clearing me, and then we could look into the possibility of a sooner class.

My questions are:

1. Why would he schedule me for another class so far out without any medical documents, then say that I might be able to get one sooner with them?

2. Have classes between now and August already filled up this quickly?

3. Is this going to be considered something that requires a waiver? I only ask because I already had to hold my breath through two.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

1. maybe that was the soonest available, or he figured he wants you going in really fresh so you have a better chance of success?
2.dont think so, but not sure
3. possibly. I would be worried about that not being a reoccuring injury. I played soccer in college and over seas, and forms of tendonitis can stick with you for 10-20+ years, ending some soccer careers... Is it right below your knee cap?

The pain was actually at its worst under my foot, along the outside of my ankle, and on the lower part of my outer shin. Basically my foot cants inward a few degrees and as a result the outer tendon was overstressed. He recommended an Asics running shoe that has been great.

The reason the date really concerns me is because I dropped everything to be ready to go on the 14th, and if I do have to wait that long I'm not sure where to start looking for something constructive to do other than work more on PT.

As long is it is not your knee, from what i've seen, you will have no problem.

Yea you should definitely push for an earlier date if possible. Talk to you OSO.

quick question...

I'm taking my PRT test in the next couple of weeks and I am an avid runner, but I recently tweaked my leg. Am I allowed to take the running portion on a treadmill, elliptical, etc. I've been not running as hard to heal it, but just wondering what my options are, and how to ask the recruiter. I am just wanting to stay off it as much as possible to fully heal it.

Wow...I read that wrong and thought he said Perineal Tendonitis....couldn't figure out what that had to do with running...thank you Google for clearing that up, I don't think an ACE Bandage would have helped your perineum...

TJK,

I don't think you will need a waiver. Shoes....get them properly fitted, and, given your (previous) problem, I suggest you go to a running shoe store and get them fitted for your feet.
