Does anyone have any good eye exercises to do in advance of the vision test to help you do well? Roger on the hydration, rest, low stress tips, but I'm wondering specifically about getting rid of strain from computer use, etc. It was a long last term of school, and it just feels like all those hours in front of the screen have made focusing a bit harder. Anyone?

Just a thought, but I've found that my eyesight sharpens up a bit when I'm focusing distant objects, then close ones, then distant ones - at regular intervals - for a short period of time.
As for reducing eye strain, it might be a good idea to get involved in bicycling or some other form of outdoor sports, especially now that the weather is getting nice.

I'm the exact same boat...I'm glad you posted this. Hope to get some good ideas out of this...

Anybody know anything about taking Luetin supplements? I read in some other threads that it works, but the only ones I could find at publix were mixed with other vitamins. Should I look for just a pure Luetin supplement?

This was the advice the doctor gave me after my PRK. I notice now that my eyesight is definitely affected by long term computer use, fatigue, and hangovers. I try to take about 5 or so minutes for every 20 I'm on the computer to rest my eyes. Dry eye can compound on this and is also worsened by lack of rest, allergies, etc...so having some eye drops handy is a good idea, as well.

And your advice for the hangovers?

I've actually gone to a vision therapist because my left eye was 20/40 (it is now 20/20), and my right eye had been taking over because it is 20/15. Now my vision in both eyes is perfect and they work together to see images near and far.

Some of the exercises I had to do included:
Voluntary Convergence (crossing your eyes while they're open and closed)
Eye Swings (open and closed, up-down, left-right, diagonals)
Alternating eye-charts (near and far)
Following a figure-eight right in front of your eyes
Saccadic Eye Movement
Looking through different lenses (+/-) to clear and blur images
Tracking exercises

PM if you want to know more. This stuff really works.

Thanks red, good info....maybe after my next physical (if I do this) the foggles in my a/c can be only in the back where they belong :)

Kiddo called after his NAMI indoc and had flunked his eye exam. I told him I would make a few calls and for him to go back over and reschedule an exam for the following morning. Called my optometrist who was Naval Reserves and asked him.

I hope I can get all this correct. He said to take a pan of warm water and two washclothes. To place the washcloths on each side of the head between the eyes and the ears. Periodically remove the washcloths and massage the area thoroghly. After 30 minutes or so go outside or to any location where one can stare at something far off. Take a very deep breath. Forcefully exhale completely. At the same time, open your eyes fully (bugeyed) and stare at the horizon for 30 seconds or so. Repeat the entire process as necessary.

When the FS asked my son what he had done to improve his eyesight so drastically overnite, he then stated that it was usually O-4s that had to resort to it. Supposedly the more time one spends in near vision environment, the more prevalent this is. It shortens the ocualar muscles and the older one gets, the more difficult it is for them to stretch to far vision requirements. The heat and massaging loosens the muscle.

I was taking golf lessons at the time, and while explaining it to the pro, I simply did the exhale portion. First the 50 yd marker cleared, and after 10 minutes or so , I could read all the way down to the 250 yd marker. It does work. How long I don't have a clue. But definitely long enough for the annual physical if you do it the night before.
