Eye surgery

I am reading things on here about having your eyes fixed. ( He has worn contacts since the 3rd grade) Is it better to have it done while in the OCS process? He has been thru MEPS twice and they have never said anything. Nor has his OR. He has never done anything about fixing his eyesight because he was told ( when he applied for the Naval Academy) to NOT do any corrective surgery. His package went before the board May 18, and he did not get in. His OR has told him that he will resubmit it in October. Just wondering if he should have already gotten eye surgery.

If he meets the vision cutoffs for SNA (20/40 for distant vision is the big one) then no he does not need surgery. SNFO has no similar distant vision requirements. However if he does not meet that cutoff and wants to fly, then he will need to get LASIK or PRK.

Does he need to get that before entering OCS? Or will they do it once he gets in?

Being that he previously applied, that means he is physically qualified and MEETS pilot standards. In order to submit an application, you need to have a physical with an approved letter that qualifies you for pilot. He doesn't need to get eye surgery at the moment.
