I was just wonderng:

What airframe is "stronger" all around?
I was just reading some stuff on the Raptor and it seems like such a super fighter, then I proceeded to read about the Super Hornet and it's awesome as well but seems to lack in certain areas when comparing the two. I would think that the AirForce bought the Raptor to perform well against new threats in the world and that the Navy would do the same. I could be wrong if the Hornet meets all threats above and beyond but I'm just a wannabe sophmore in college so please forgive any ignorance I may have imposed on you guys. Maybe it's the fact that I want to fly the Raptor off a carrier one day (wearing gold wings ofcourse)!

Thanks for your time -guys-,
Jason

I would have to say, as a layperson, that the F-22. The F-22 would be stronger because it flys faster speed plus the airframe would have to deal with thrust-vectoring. Whereas the F/A-18 doesn't. Also the F-22 has two 35k lb P&W engines (lotta thrust there, oh yeah! argh argh argh) while the F/A-18 has two 18k lb GE engines (this stat is NOT for the superhornet versions). I might be wrong. If I am please correct me.

to add some interesting info about the f-22,

This girl in the Aviation Program at OU has a father who was a test pilot in the Raptor. I got to hear him talk about the different aspects of flight testing....yada yada. I must say very impressive stuff he brought up......of what he could bring up that is. He hinted to the fact that the F-22 is hands down going to kill anything in the air for years to come.....ok maybe a little baised on his part ....but still this dude flew F15's for twenty or so years. I must say that Mr. Stevensons theroy about pilot vs pilot is so very true and will be until "we" pilots are replaced.

fyi....did you know the F-22 is the first aircraft to go supersonic in straight and level flight without burners? that will save some gas!

Good answer Matt! Kinda like on those airplane shows on TV where they are always asking the pilot "what the best aircraft is." Do the makers of the program honestly think they'd say something other than their current airframe? lol I always get a kick out of that... and when you think about it... every plane is "the best" because no two are designed for the same purpose... hence the fact there are more than only one type of combat aircraft! :)
I always love reading what you have to say, Matt! lol :)

Slurp, slurp, gobble, gobble. Need a towel, there, Boss? :)

As far as supercruise goes, realize that going super without burner in straight and level flight isn't anything new...I've done it myself in the Mighty Strike Pig.

The difference with the F-22 is that it has the MIL power thrust to go *well beyond* M=1, so it can "comfortably" punch through the barrier and remain above it in MIL. In the F-15E, the conditions have to be just right, I have to be up in the bozosphere, I have to be in a totally clean jet, etc, etc.

HA HA HA.. lol

Hey, you fly Eagles right? I like hearing what you have to say just as much. lol I love 'em all... but I have to admit, for some reason I've always loved the Hornet over everything else... not to say I wouldn't love to fly anything else the military can offer... but I only like hearing what the "pros" have to say about flyin.' :)
