Final Select Hurdles (Citizenship)

PRO REC SNA!
Now that the Pro-Rec has come through, I have a major problem that needs solving. I am a dual citizen between the US and Turkey. I am aware that dual citizenship status is not acceptable before getting the FS letter and OCS date.

I have begun the process of renouncing my Turkish citizenship, which starts with obtaining my Certificate of Naturalization, which was lost when my dad moved to another state. It takes 6-12 months to get a copy (I have already put a request in). The Turkish government then needs me to request a delay of mandatory conscription which takes 1-2 two months after that. Only after that is approved can I petition for the renunciation of my citizenship, which takes another 6-12 months.

I have contacted my Senator, who assigns case workers to help with such problems. His assistants say they can speed up this process. My recruiter has not dealt with this situation before.

What I'd like to know is:

1) Has anyone here gone through this, what have they done to work it out?
2) Do any of you know how I can speed up this process aside from my Senator's help?
3) How long do I have before my Pro-Rec is no longer useful and I have to go to board again?
4) Turkey refuses to release me from citizenship, what can I do to show the DoD that my loyalty is with the US?

Thanks for your help.

Overall shouldn't be a big deal, and shouldn't need much/any outside help.

When I reported to my first command, I had to give my XO my foreign passport (even though it was over 10 years old by that point), and he "destroyed" it. Hopefully. Bottom line, he told the requestors (probably DONCAF) that it was done, and shortly after my Secret went through.

When I was up for TS/SCI I went the extra step of going to their embassy and filling out forms formally requesting to renounce my citizenship. Only reason I did that is my parents said my name was still on the citizen list back home. I turned copies of the forms and receipt into the investigating agent. Got that clearance shortly after too.

There was zero impact on the OCS process.

The time involved may be your enemy, you need to keep your OR updated and make sure your OR keeps NRC updated as the answer for #3 is 90 days, they very well may turn you to a pro N for failure to provide all documentation, the part that hurts less is every person that I had who went to pro n for something out of their hands was turned to a pro y when the documentation was finally turned in.

Didn't your OR request a copy of your Naturalization certificate prior to submitting your application? about 18 months ago we started to have to have all renunciations completed prior to submission.

On #4 if they refuse to release you then you are done

Some countries make it painful, some do not, this is a pain you are going to have to go through

now everything has to be done before any FS letter will be issued, including a letter signed by 2 officers from the NRD saying they witnessed the destruction of the foreign passport, or they witnessed it being sent back to the issuing country.

Not true. Forget the username on here, but he was Iranian born and is a naturalized US Citizen. Did everything in his power to renounce, and Iran refused. He documented everything, and now he's flying jets I believe... I'll did around and find his thread because he detailed what was required since Iran was refusing.

Does this count as a renunciation of my citizenship? Do the forms from Turkey have to be in my hand, or does the act of cutting up my Citizenship Card (I have no Turkish Passport) prove enough? I was hoping I could go in front of proper witnesses, cut up my citizenship card to show my loyalty (and be eligible for FS), then continue the renunciation as soon as the Naturalization Certificate gets here.

Which NRD officers would have to witness the destruction and how could I make that official?

They requested my Naturalization Certificate but they told me my Passport would suffice (without a Naturalization Certificate, it's impossible to get one).

That is a very good point.

There were big changes late 2011 on how NRC deals with renunciations, however I should have said, if the country does not allow you to renunciate AND the US doesn't feel you have done everything you can.
