Missing bio?

Interesting enough. I couldn't find his bio on navy.mil.

He is an operator's operator and disdains publicity therefore, by choice, his bio is not on the Navy Flag Biography list. After 9/11, all bios were pulled and then only those that individual agreed to have in public were available via web. The other Navy SEAL vice admiral does have his there though.

Crazy. These people have been in the navy as long as I've been alive. I'm not old like Hey Joe, but I'm not a young pup either. You have really got to love what you do to stay in that long.

There was one seal (named the Bullfrog I believe) who has been in since the early 60s (enlisted and then commissioned later on). I think he just retired 1-2 years ago.

I think Rudy comes close to taking the cake, 45 years active duty........

He was in the Navy from 1945 to 1990. He was also a Master Chief for 23 years......

So does VADM John Bulkeley........he was on active duty for 55 years, from 1933 to 1988 (the last 14 years he was retired on active duty).

But ADM Rickover I think takes the cake........with almost 60 years on active duty, some of it retired on active duty as well.

I think those are the guys that count their service by the number of times they've been divorced just to make themselves feel younger... or older not really sure.

The SEAL on active duty with earliest designator carries the title of "Bullfrog" so it's not just one person as it is handed over. There is a similar nickname for naval aviator and naval flight officer with earliest designator (Gray Eagle and Gray Owl). Wings of Gold and Foundation magazines usually run the aviation desisnees annually. I think there is also a Coast Guard "honoree" as well. Typically, they are admirals in case of aviation, but not in SPECWAR. For years, Bullfrog was a CDR who had initially been an enlisted SEAL so he had a designator date before even the SEAL admirals at the time.

Would think it would be a matter of public record....

I say again, it was his option/choice. Got that from Navy webmaster. If you have ever met him, you'd realize he's not to be trifled with and is all business.

I've met him. He was the Guest of Honor a few years back at my ROTC Unit's USN/USMC B-Day Ball (U of South Florida in Tampa.) Awesome guy. My wife and I got our pic taken with him and his wife, who was also very nice. He's got a great sense of humor, but def a locked-on MF.

We had ADM Olson come to the team to present a couple of guys their Tridents. He, his aid and the NSWG-1 Command Master Chief were all in khakis with ribbons. Once the presentation was complete, the recipients were directed to the obligatory wet & sandy treatment. As they started over the berm, Olson started jogging after them. The bewildered aid, followed by our C.O., and eventually, the gathered hundred or so SEALs followed. To everyone's amazement, the ADM followed them into the (winter)surf and proceded to roll around in the sand with the new SEALs. The NEX probably ran out of Tridents and ribbons from all the guys who had to replace their uniforms. Great leader and SEAL.

Actually, I worked with one of Bulkeley's daughters when I was a lifeguard, he was married before WWII and stayed married to her for the rest of his life.
