Do you start getting flight when you're at API? I'm transferring from the surface navy, and I was wondering when I'll start getting flight pay? While I'm waiting to class up? In API? Intermediate? Not desperate or anything, just curious. Thanks.

Flight pay starts when you check into your squadron at Primary, following ground school. You'll check in initially, do 2.5 weeks of ground school, then check in for real. That's when ACIP starts. At least, that's how it works at Whiting.

$125/month taxable for an O-1 < 2 years. Not sure if it's anymore for O-1E.

Damn...I'm losing sea pay and won't have flight pay to replace it for a while. Guess I'll have to count on the ridiculously low cost of living in P-cola. At least I'll have three years of sea pay when I make my first squadrong deployment.

Speaking of, how does sea pay work for officers? I know as enlisted I didn't rate sea pay until I had 6 months at sea, and it depended on rank.

Sea pay is a little trickier for squadrons. You'll get it, but only when deployed on a carrier.

RP, don't sweat losing the seapay, you're still gonna outearn all your butterbar classmates ;)
