What do they check for in Dental? If I have a cavity are they just gonna say "get it filled?"

Sorry man, it gets yanked. Truth be told, there are a variety of dentists in the service. Some good, some very very bad. I've had a couple re-fills on my teeth. No worries.

I was just wondering if they pass you at the flight physical or if they don't until you get it filled on your own or what? They also told me I am gonna have to go to MEPS to do an Inspect so they will release my med. records b/c they need my surgery records. Seems so redundant that I went to betheseda to get blood work and chest x-ray and drug test, then I go to Pax River for a flight Phys. Then I gotta go to MEPS. What a ringaround............

Don't feel too bad, I've had to go see the flight doc twice because they forgot something, and now a third. It seems that with the eight viles of blood, and two cups of urine they forgot to give me a drug test, and get my blood type. Frustrating, but typical.

Are you kidding me? If you have teeth with fillings you can't fly jets? I find that hard to believe.

If you're missing teeth (other than wisdom) you're automatically selected to fly helicopters.

Also, any tooth with evidence of valmorphorization or decalcification is disqualifying for aviation in general. As for dentures, they can be disqualifying for tactical aircraft as they destabilize the OBOGS system...basically all the worst parts of the Bible.

LoL. The only purpose of this post was to ask what they do during the dental portion of the flight physical. I was just curious lol.

they look in your mouth. no different than any other dental checkup. people really need to stop freaking out over flight physicals. no one is out to get you in aviation medicine. this isn't the air force.

Squeeze is right, there is some weird paranoia about Flight Physical that just doesn't pan out. Sure, someone will jump on now and say, ''But they kicked me out after my flight physical uncovered asthma and HIV" but for the 98% of you out there who aren't currently dying, in chronic pain, or covered in herpes sores...okay maybe 94%...the physical is no big deal. Honest to God I had a flight surgeon tell me once that it would take a problem of nearly biblical proportions for him to permanantly down someone. So relax, if there's a prob with your teeth or whatever they will just schedule you for a fix-up and it'll be all good.

stop looking on flight physicals as something that is going to get you booted for some strange ailment. their goal is to have med-up pilots. start looking on them like everyone else does; as a pain in the ass that you have to deal with every year that never fits around your schedule.

Hey look at me, I can't see the ball for sh*t and they (the flight docs) still let me fly, with passengers no less.

*That's my excuse for crappy ball-flying.

The Cag-9 guys are lovin' that handy bit of info, I'm sure..."Hey, Spig...guess what" :D

You know what else is sweet.. getting paid like 25 cents a mile to drive to your flight physical.. it really isn't bad in and out... much faster than MEPS.
