Foreign language pay

I have seen on some of the pay charts that special pay is given for foreign language proficiency. Do you have to be in specific MOSs, or could an SNA get it? It would be cool if I could just take a test and collect a few extra dollars every month.

heck, does it help your chances of getting SNA too? Went to University of Arkansas for 2.5 years and they require you go all the way through advanced in a foreign language. When I transferred to Riddle i found that you don't have to take even one freakin class. I'd like to think I didn't study every day for two years to learn Japanese for nothing.

I start Spanish here at the Defense Language Institute tommorrow. The extra pay only kicks in after you have completed a government course here in Monterey, and even then you need to be in a billet which requires you to use that language (not SNA, sorry). When i get more details I'll post 'em.

You can test out of the languages and get the pay too. You don't just have to take them at the DLI. For example, I tested out of spanish, but I don't reap any extra rewards unless I'm in a billet where it's required. Sadly, SNA is not one of them. Although, I might be able to make a case for it here in Kingsville.
