Form Flight

Thought I'd share. Had my first form hop today. Was fun stuff. Here's a few pics I snapped on the way from MVC to the form area. It's a pretty undescribeable reaction the first time you see another aircraft flying close on purpose.

I was wing for all three of the pics. The first pic is just a shallow turn as we're moving back into a cruise position. The second, we were in about a .5 G turn. The third was just after I'd given my instructor back the controls. We were supposed to be in cruise, but I'd gotten us a little high and close (not dangerously so) so it almost looks like parade.

Cool pics. Just wait until you're flying tight parade going through the goo. :D

Does TW-6 not have the same policy about pictures? If they do, might want to make this disappear.

Cameras are authorized on form flights IAW a read file. I've never seen one posted on the internet though.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing. Quick question: is the line in the top of the canopy a det cord or what? Do the seats fire you through the canopy?

[edit]Yes, it is det cord.[\edit] When you pull the handles, the explosive fires shattering the canopy, and the seat fires you through where the canopy used to be. In the event the CFS (canopy fracture system) doesn't work, the seat has a metal spike that will shatter the canopy before your skull does.

Its not det cord. Its a plastic explosive. When you pull the handles, the explosive fires shattering the canopy, and the seat fires you through where the canopy used to be. In the event the CFS (canopy fracture system) doesn't work, the seat has a metal spike that will shatter the canopy before your skull does.

AKA det cord. ;)

And I believe that the rear portion of the canopy (the part that isn't thickened for birdstrike resistance) is even referred in NATOPS as "mild detonator cord"...

Yes, even I, the one and only Bubba, have moments of stupidity. I'm not perfect, even though I claim to be.
