Future Lateral Transfer between Nuclear Instructor and Cryptologic Warfare

My recruiter suggested that I start out my Navy career as a Nuclear Instructor and laterally transfer to become a Cryptologic Warfare Officer. He suggested this because my initial medical waiver was rejected for OCS (currently working on a second waiver for my subaortic stenosis - I made another post about this in the OCS section of this forum).

A bit more information about me:

1. I am 27 years old.
2. I graduated from Georgia Tech in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering (3.35 GPA).
3. I have roughly half of the credits required to graduate with a Master's in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech (3.20 GPA).
4. I worked for 2 years as a Fluids Design Engineer at Kennedy Space Center.
5. I scored a 62 on the Navy OAR.
6. I have been working with my recruiter to prepare the document package for the upcoming IWC DCO boards (Ideally for the 3/17/2025 board).
7. I can currently pass the Navy PRT and the height/weight standards.

Does anybody know how feasible it is to transfer between these two careers after 4-5 years as a Nuclear Instructor?

Your post is all over the place.

DCO is a reserve program, which requires relevant work experience.

NUPOC Instructor you are afforded the opportunity to redesignate after your 5 year obligation and you want to stay active duty. I have heard of folks go CW, but that's not to say that will be a guarantee for you.

As mentioned in your previous post, this all might be moot due to your DQ.

Provided you can qualify medically, being a nuke instructor isn't a bad gig. Your odds of transferring into a certain community are going to be based upon your timing and what's available when it comes to switch out of the nuke instructor community. It's hard to determine what will be available 5 or 6 years from now. I will say that your background is also very good for the Engineering Duty Officer and Aviation Engineering Duty Officer communities if there are open billets available.

Good luck brother—remember that your chances are 0% if you don’t apply for the transfer.

Despite that, there are still lots of other cool ways to serve, so think about applying to to civ govt (or jobs that will pay you real money!) agencies as well, just to hedge your bets.
