Is the Marine Corps still hurting for pilots? Specifically jet pilots?

Competition pretty stiff for Marine jets, or is it fairly easy? I hear people saying how if you are a Marine and you get above a 50-55 NSS, your going jets.

Do any Marine jet pilots just have some wisdom to pass down on how to get jets? Thanks.

i'm not trying to burst anyones bubble here but variables such as this are ever changing and what may be true this month could change entirely next month. I would suggest that you concentrate on PFT, your education, and OCS before you stress over anything else. I will say one thing, if your deciding factor on joining the Marines is probability of flying jets then you have a long way to go. Trust me when I say, you have to want to be a Marine Officer first and OCS will make you realize that like nothing else. Everything has a place and time and worrying about how many jet pilots are necessary will come when you are flight school. Just my two cents.

Whether the USMC is hurting for aviators or not, the competition for a jet billet is always stiff. Sometimes it's the luck of the draw.

You will always hear, "The needs of the Marine Corps." So if the Marine Corps is short on C-130 pilots, then they can order all 2d Lts in one class or more to go the multi-engine pipeline of flight school.

The point is, the USN/USMC will not lower standards regardless of how much of a need for aviators there is. It is still competitive no matter what.
