I plan on taking both the GMAT and ASTB this summer. Are the math and verbal sections similar on each test?

ARCO makes a study guide for the ASTB, it will give you an idea of what will be on the ASTB. you can pick one up at just about any book store (Barnes & Noble type places)

No Idea about the GMAT

I haven't taken the GMAT yet, but I can't imagine that it would be very similar to the ASTB. From what I remember of the ASTB (it's been 7 or 8 years since I took it) it is very elementary. It is simpler than the SAT or ACT, and those are just college entrance, not grad school entrance exams.

Does ARCO make the best study guide?

It is the only one I have ever seen, It is the one I used and it was accurate to the material on the ASTB.

Go buy a study guide for the GMAT!! Buy one that comes with a CD. I bought a study guide with a CD, published by Kaplan, and it helped tremendously. The cover price for this guide is $37.00. The CD had all the instructional material as the book, plus tons of quizzes and four full-length practice tests. It really gets you prepped to take the real thing. It's timed and if you don't have a decent pace, you could very well end up not answering a lot of questions.

The GMAT is an adaptive test, meaning the better you do, the harder it gets. Every correct answer gets you a harder question. Add that with the timed aspect and it gets very hectic! All I can say is buy a guide and spend some serious time on it.

Factor in that you have to pay good money to take the GMAT while the ASTB is free...

Hope this helps.

Any questions? :D

Thanks for the replys. I am planning on taking the GRE or GMAT, and the ASTB this summer. I figure the GMAT or GRE book will help with the Math/Verbal section of the ASTB and the ARCO will help with the other sections. Zornundo, thanks for the info on the GMAT book with the CD.
