Going from Navy To Marine Corps as NFO

I am going to be commissioned into the Navy this May 30th and will then head down to start NFO flight school at Pensacola next fall. Please correct me if i'm wrong but I've heard that there is a possibility of being able to transfer to the Marine Corps upon being winged or sometime during training. Could someone please elaborate for me on this process, how it works and what I would have to do? I have unfortunately been unable to find little information on this. I've talked to one SNFO at Pensacola but he's only heard of it and hasn't been able to find much information for me at all. I am really interested in going Marine Corps possible.

Thanks!

Considering that the NFO community in the Marines stands a good chance of going away beyond 2015, you might want to consider all your options before making that big of a change.

I have never heard of SNFOs making that transition. They took 20 SNAs once, but that was 2 years ago. You might be able to request an intraservice transfer after your commissioning, but that is definitely not a common practice. Maybe you could bail on your current contract and get picked up for USMC OCS, also highly unlikely.

Being a Navy SNFO is certainly not a bad deal either, so it's not like you're up sh!t creek if you can't go Marines. :D Oh, and I'm just curious why you selected the handle "futnavalaviator" if you are infact a "futnavalflightofficer" ;) :D

Cheers

you got me there...the reason for this handle is that I was trying to go Aviator but didn't work out I guess I haven't bothered to update this yet.

Any particular reason you want to be a Marine NFO vice Navy NFO?

If the Marines accept your comission, the first thing you would do is go to TBS (6 month school) at Quantico, VA to learn how to be a provisional rifle platoon commander. Then down to Pensacola for NFO school. The Marines are hurting for NFOs right now though.
