Yeah, well. The Dude abides.
You still have to submit some paperwork and then you will get your "final select" if everything looks good. Paperwork includes PT test, MEPS, etc...

The search function should be able to give you some more insight also.

Good luck and congrats on being selected!

Basically if you pass the medical exams at MEPS and then pass the PRT you will get selected. Make sure you can get at least a Good Low in each exercise. Good Luck

Don't get fat. Don't f*ck it up. That's what I was told, and that's basically all you need to know.

Good luck on final select.

If you already took the PRT and had a physical, will final select be faster?

A bit. The only reason for that though is because you can submit the paperwork now instead of waiting a week to go through MEPS. However, no one can tell you how long the final select will take. Could be 2 weeks, could be 2 months.

I thought Intel applicants security clearances take 12 months or so. Does that mean you won't get final select for a year? Or do they conduct the check while you're at OCS and NMITC?

Top secret takes about 12 months or so. Secret takes considerably less. I believe they start working on TS after OCS, beforehand you're granted Secret.

Does anyone know what a security check entails? Are they gonna call up and harass my friends from kindergarten? Or is it more like looking at my academics and checking to see if I ever had a check bounce? I would think the latter is far more important than the first.

A security check or a security clearance? The EPSQ / SF-86 for a Top Secret clearance requires 7 years worth of data for applicable items. Since I recently finished mine for my DCO package, I'll outline what it entailed:

  • Where you have lived, including someone who knew you at each address
  • Where you went to school, including someone who knew you at each school
  • Your employment activities, including your supervisor's contact information
  • People who know you well (friends, peers, etc.)...
  • Your current and former spouses, if any
  • Your relatives and associates
  • Citizenship of relatives and associates
  • Your military history
  • Your foreign activities (contact with any foreign government)
  • Foreign countries you have visited
  • Military record (did you receive other than honorable discharge)
  • Selective service record (have you registered)
  • Medical record (mental health issues)
  • Employment record (ever been fired, dismissed, left under unfavorable circumstances)
  • Your police record
  • Your use of illegal drugs and drug activity (since the age of 16 or in the last 7 years, whichever is shorter)
  • Your use of alcohol (in regard to alcoholic treatment, etc.)
  • Your investigations record (if you have ever had your background investigated)
  • Your financial record (bad debts, bankruptcies, etc.)
  • Your financial delinquencies
  • Public record civil court actions
  • Your association record (foreign government associations)
Attached is a sample SF-86.

Had a brother get a security clearance recently and it took two months (secret level). Would it take a little more time than usual as a result of the administration turnover?

Got professionally recommended for pilot a few weeks ago and finished all paper work with pending medical tests results. Congratulations and good luck to you serda07.
