GPA calculation

I have read some posts with conflicting info so I thought I would just start my own. I attended a community college before transferring to my University. I have read that the Navy calculates the GPA from the University transcripts only as well as whatever grades were transferred from the previous college, if any. I realize all my transcripts will be submitted, but for the final GPA calculation is it only what is on the University transcripts? How does the Navy handle course retakes? I know these questions get beat to death, but I haven't been able to find satisfactory answers.

I transferred from a CC and took some classes at a university before applying to the Navy. I sent in the final transcript from each school. My university accepted my CC credits at "other than face value" and my GPA suffered a bit as a result. I had retaken courses as well, but those were all at CC. Point is that the GPA I put on my application was the same one on my university transcript. I don't know how the Navy calculates GPA, but I hope my story helps some.....

What do you mean by "other than face value"? My transfer credits do not apply to my GPA at all at my University, as I understand is the case at most Universities. Did your recruiter mention anything about calculating your GPA or did he/she basically just go with the one on your transcript?

I believe their just calculate your overall GPA from all colleges attended i.e. grade points earned divided by units taken. I transfered as well and my GPA fell a full digit because I focused more on fun than studying at the University. My overall GPA from both schools was 3.1, that's what I put on my app, and that's what they looked at when they selected me for SNA.

I just put each individual school and each individual GPA. If they average it later, I don't know anything about that.

I think the original question was more along the lines of, does the Navy look at the final grades on your transcript and not any of the grades that were dropped off (ie grades lower than a C).

And I'm really interested in this because I had a hard time adjusting to college my first year and my grades suffered. But now I'm achieving A's and B's and hopefully this next year I can hit a 4.0 or two. But my overall gpa wouldn't be all that impressive because of having to turn things around so much.

I would imagine that in cases similar to mine, which I think is similar to flysupertomcat's, the Navy will also look at grade trends and any extenuating circumstances involving dramatic changes in such trends. Any truth to my assumptions?
