Just have a question about GPAs. First off I'd like to say that I've been trying to get into BDCP for the longest however I have had some setbacks. One of them now I think is going to be GPA. I'm currently attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach and majoring in Aeronautics (this is not an engineering degree just a regular B.S. degree). My GPA is a little over a 2.9. Problem is I failed a classs one semester and my GPA dropped from a 3.4. Don't how much of an effect this going to have on me getting into BDCP or a flight slot. Some of these NROTC guys have like 3.8s to 4.0. I'm coming into my last year of college and I'm hoping to get atleast above 3.0, although 3.5 would be great. Anyway if any of you guys can offer some advice I would really appreciate it.

At the college I attended, if you failed a class you could re-take the class before you graduated and the grade you received when you re-took the class would replace the past failing grade. I didn't have to deal with anything of that nature, but I did get a "D" in a class and I almost re-took the class to pull my GPA up. Something you could look into.

I dont know much about BDCP selection, but I can tell you that most universities that replace grades will keep the old grade on the transcript but just omit it for GPA calculation purposes. This can cause problems down the road. For example I know that the University of Texas calculates GPA according to their standards and not using the GPA calculated by the university of origin, for their purposes they average the scores of a class taken twice. Additionally for NROTC Mids a W is treated as a failure and can be grounds for a PRB resulting in LOA or Probation.

Like I said, this may not affect you at all, but keep in mind that people do look at the transcripts, not just the GPA.
