I am an out of state student at a state u. that allows active duty out of state personel in state rates if they have a letter saying they are based in that state. Seeing that you are active duty while in BDCP what are the chances of making this work. The money saved would be in my pocket, yeah!

you order say to attend _______ University for __ months and graduate with a degree. I would be taking those in there too. They can't deney your orders.

I know in Alabama the statute is worded such that if you are ordered here for the primary purpose of attending school then you do not technically ;) qualify for in-state tuition. I would reccomend you contact the VA office at your school and find out the details specific to your state.

"Purdue University has changed practices regarding tuition and fee assessment for active duty military personnel. Starting with the Fall 1998 semester, a waiver of non-resident tuition for twelve months is available for active-duty personnel who are stationed either in the state of Indiana or at Purdue University. During these twelve months, military personnel who are attending Purdue could satisfy Indiana residency requirements to make them eligible for continued resident tuition rates."

That's right off the Purdue webpage, as soon as I have my orders I am going to take advantage of this. I know that other public institutions may have different rules, but its worth a try.

Most state universities/community colleges charge the in-state tuition rate for active duty people stationed in that particular state. Normally, all you need is your official orders to show this. Sometimes I have seen it where the school requires a written letter from your command.

BDCP folks...you guys are on active duty drawing active duty pay an allowances. The rules governing you guys should not be any different.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from trying to get in-state tuition. I'm just saying make sure you are familiar with the requirements in your particular state and don't go waving around your orders if they don't ask for them.:D

Right...California is gay that way too. I learned of thiis because Cal and UCLA are on the CEC's list of approved grad schools, but the fine print says you can't go there unless you're a CA resident.
