Has the Surge Put Iraq on the Path to Success?

The other part of the surge that most people miss is the way the troops are fighting. Rather than spending most of their time on the super-bases, they are out living with the locals. This allows them to breed trust and not have the sh-theads cut the locals heads off when our patrols leave an area for days, week, etc. I saw a significant change between 2006 and 2008 in the number of friendlies on the roads while flying. The other significant change between 2006 to 2008 -- a lot less safires. One action certainly drove the other.
