Help - 12 OCT OCS, Aviation Physical

New Member
Heading down to Newport from NH tomorrow for the 12 OCT Class.

I really need feedback to help calm my nerves about the aviation physical (SNA contract).
About me:
Started USN process in July 2012 with the SPECWAR-SEAL option. Did not acquire a contract (swim time wasn't fast enough) left the program in march 2013.
Started officer package in summer 2013, ASTB taken that summer, scored average (cant remember exact numbers, but wasn't lower end of necessary scores)
College - poli sci degree with dual minors, international relations, Spanish (fluent), Div-III track athlete
Medical - physical fitness is not an issue for me (ie the regular navy test)
I am 5'10" 155pds,
Eyesight - depth, normal, passed, color normal, passed.
My eyesight - 20/40 left, 20/35 right, very mild astigmatism, vision with glasses correctable to 20/20, will be bringing brand new glasses (purchased tonight) with new (slightly better vision now) prescription
*****My OR strongly recommended that I head to my private eye doctor week prior. I did that this past Tuesday and will be bringing my official paperwork from them per his request.RESULTS were the same as MEPS.

Letters of recommendations from crossfit trainer, college professors (2), a three star admiral, retired Navy SEAL (uncle), and my martial arts guro.

Would really love feedback from the amazing AW.com community to help calm my nerves. I wouldn't like to redes. but I will do so because the Navy is what I need in life!

Please excuse my excessive use of parentheses, jut trying to be more descriptive! Will be checking back here all night while I'm packing and early tomorrow morning before I leave.
Hooyah,
Nick

Greetings, Nick...

You're a runner. I'm guessing most likely a middle-distance/distance runner based on the height/weight info that you provided. Go running...3 or 4 miles...nothing balls out or anything...maybe do a few sprint intervals in there as well as some push-ups/sit-ups/pull-ups.

Your post reminds me of how I felt the night prior to shipping off for AOCS in Pensacola in 1986. Anyway, I did what I described above the night prior to shipping off...and it seemed to help calm the nerves. I'm definitely not a coach/trainer...just my 2 cents. Like you, I also ran Div-III track...but I wasn't very good.

I wish you well...go kick ass in Newport.

What worked for me when I was worried about eyesight was this set:
  1. Keep the lights dim
  2. Don't do any reading (that includes whatever electronic device you read on) unless it's totally necessary
  3. Watch TV/whatever from across the room
  4. Stay hydrated and eat well
  5. Get plenty of sleep
  6. Don't close either eye in the test
  7. Take your time in the test: make them let you blink a few times and adjust your head position. Don't let the corpsman rush you.
