Hello, I am an active duty PO1 trying to apply for OCS next year. The area where I am is hard to find officers who can help me with letters of recommendation. The majority of the officers I know are reservist. It is OK to ask a reservist for a letter of recommendation since I would like to request for active duty officer not reservist? I am planning to apply right after I finish my degree around January time.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

No fear asking a Reservist for a letter...they are still commissioned officers and that's all that counts. Actually rather pointless asking anyone you DON'T know for a letter...how could they recommend you?

Thank you for the advice. I worked in a reserve center and the officers who may be able to give me an interview are FTS or SELRES.

Question

Hello to all,

Currently I am trying to culminate my degree in Information System and I am planning to apply in February of 2010.

These are my issues:

- I am an active duty PO2 and because reaching my HTY is approaching soon I would like to know if I have a chance. Also, I recently sold my house under the "Short Sale" program.
- I have good letters of recommendations and in my present command

I have many collateral duties such as (CFL, Safety Officer, Training Officer, Instructor Manager, Building Manager, GTTC coordinator and DTS Coordinator). I believe that I have change to present a good package, since in these moments I am rank number one in my command and I believe that my CO can give me a good letter recommendation.

What you guys think?

I think you need to go talk to your career counselor. The #1 E-5 in your command ain't too shabby and that will certainly look good for any boards that will review you.

Do you already have a degree? Are you looking to get out and then get back in at OCS? STA-21?

We need more info to help you.

Question

Well,

I still have two more years of contract before I reach my HTY. I will finish my degree this coming December. My school told me that I should receiving a copy of my degree certify no later than January. I understand that I can apply each month in the OCS program and I am planning to apply in the month of February or March, if I receive all the papers on time.
What is your recommendation?
