Hey,

Well I just registered here to get a little inside view of what Im going to get myself into. Im currently a college sophomore thats planning on doing OCS after graduation. Im just a bit curious as to what to expect, not from OCS itself, but more from the application process, selection reqs, stuff like that. I know I still have plenty of time before I even think about applying, but never hurts to get a leg up. Im going to declare my major today, History, and my grades arent the best, but they are about average. Is that going to hurt me in the end? I guess just any kind of information anyone is willing to share, Ill be happy to take.

Thanks

Welcome to AirWarriors. You'll find most of what you are looking for in the OCS section, but if you have specific questions, use the search function. There are lots of old post that will enlighten.

If you're looking to get into the Navy via OCS, BDCP is something you should look into. Check out the BDCP forum here on AW and ask questions that you can't find answers to. At your timeframe, you could be a candidate for BDCP (and that's a good thing!)

Yeah, I agree with nugget81, you should totally look into the BDCP. I am in it right now and it is awesome. Ask your local officer recruiter about it.

Make sure you talk to an OFFICER recruiter. While the Enlisted recruiter will attempt to help you, he may also try to get you to enlist.

Plan on being overwhelmed by the information you encounter as you read through this forum. Great info on the site, but it uses its own sort of diction (this is a good book mark: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:U.S._Navy_slang for people like you and me). I got a little confused at the whole process: the likes of ASTB test gouge, BCDP offers, board meetings, health waivers (mostly eye stuff), legal/criminal history, packet info, officer recruiter jargon and a multitude of other things. Since there is a lot of conflicting gouge out there, when in doubt, try and pick the info you use from posters with the Winged icon under their names. Some may be poopypantsed about it;), but all of them have BTDT. Finally, search = good but if that fails, post and see what happens. Welcome!
