This has gotta be a repost - 15th MEU workups on the west coast several years ago doing VBSS. HAC came in too fast, too low. Bunch of guys died. Crewchief got the Navy/Marine Corps Medal posthumously for saving some of the grunts in back.

Lesson to be learned for the young, up and coming helo bubbas. As soon as you start to tilt and the cyclic isn't doing anything, lower the collective and shut down...

Happened in 1999 off the coast of San Diego.

They weren't landing, they were about to practice boarding a ship by fast-roping onto it.

Six Marines and one Sailor died, 11 survived. At least a few made it out through the hellhole because of the fastrope operation.

I believe both the Pilot and Co-Pilot made it, but I am not 100% on that, it would make sense though, since they have a pretty easy exit.

Other lesson learned is dont let confidential mishap footage make it on youtube.
