When did the BDCP program come out? Every time I go to the base or call to get something taken care of it takes twenty minutes of explaining BDCP before i can get help. Nobody has ever heard of it.

When they ask rank and I say NPO they dont get it. Even trying to go through the gate sometimes. Or when I call psd etc... And they ask where im stationed. I guess part of the reason is that there isnt a navy base around me, but there are navy personnel.

Any quick and easy ways to explain the program in less than 20 seconds?

I say I'm an "OC E-3"
I say I'm stationed in my city, or I give them the recruiting district. Easiest way I found out was to just give them my OSO number and the civilian that works there does a great job of explaining it.
The only problem with BDCP, is that you sound retarted explaining it because it sounds like your full of crap. Get paid to do nothing but go to school.

WOW, at my local base, National Naval Medical Center... the civilian guards just wave you right through without looking at you. The Marines do a better job, though I was never questioned.

Yeah i normally just give pay grade e-3 and say rank NPO non petty officer. I get the wierdest looks trying to explain bdcp. or just cut off and they say "Oh, NROTC?" or Oh you are reserve? Or my favorite "Dont you have to be at the main campus to be in that?" YEs I live on the main campus of 25,000 students.

THe hard part is explaining that I get active duty benefits but Im not assigned to the local base. I wanted to get a pair of the free glasses so i could have a spare. The two bases in my state had to argue back and forth to see which one had to give me glasses since I wasn't stationed at either..
