How to thank people who've helped

I have received some nice LORs from two great military aviators. They've spent hours explaining things to me, invited me into their home, and then written me letters. I want to do something nicer than a thank you note. Have any of you purchased gifts for military mentors and if so, what?

I've already given liquor once. . . .

I took some liquor once already when I had dinner at their house. .. .I was looking for something different. I almost put in the post "besides liquor." Thanks, I really feel I owe these guys and wondered what y'all have done, if anything for guys who took time to assist.

Graduate. That and liquor should do it...are you worried they'll think you thankless? Don't be, I'm sure they were happy to help, and felt that much more relevant to us future aviator types. Seriously.

Keep them in the loop as you progress then have a drink with them when you get winged that will be all the thanks they need. Well that and when you become "them" help the next "you"

Actually, to be serious, skip the liquor if that is your choice. I have done something similar to what you are asking about on three occassions: once in the military and twice in the airlines.

All three times, I later made a personal visit to the individual and thanked them for helping me and making it all possible. I made it clear I was in their debt and I would not forget their time and their kindness in mentoring me. It was sufficient, proper, and appreciated in each case .... the smiles and their response confirmed it.

You could also find out, as secretly as possible, their hobbies....obtain accordingly. If they are married, perhaps an additional bouquet of flowers.

AND a thank you note.
