I need some advice on IFS

I need some advice and maybe some of you can help. I have 30 civilian hours as of now. Next year, my sophomore year, I'm going to apply for an NROTC 2 year scholarship. I would like to hold off on flying until IFS. Will the Navy still let me participate in IFS with 30 prior hours? I go to school year round and my schedule is pretty much full and flying can be expensive, so IFS is an attractive offer. I'm wanting to wait till IFS, but I've already spent a lot of money on flying lessons now. It will all pay for itself in the end. Would it be a smart move to just wait till IFS and concentrate on GPA right now? Any Advice would help.

I had 30 hours from before I got to college and I decided to just finish up the PPL. With 30 hours, you may not get to do IFS as it seems to be just a weeding out process for people who are either completely incompetent or cry uncontrollably in the cockpit. The consensus in other threads is that if you either have a certificate or a significant amount of hours, you don't do IFS. In addition, my PPL got me out of a tech elective, thus allowing me to graduate in the 3 years I anticipated. So I would recommend seeing what, if any, credit an FAA cert. would get you and finish it up. You've already spent enough money on it thus far, why not finish it?

Your GPA will earn you the NROTC scholarship, not the PPL. Focus on school and worry about IFS stuff later. Good luck!

You probably won't be doing IFS with that much flight time. Good luck with the scholarship.

It depends on what you did in your 30 hours. Likely, you completed the tasks that would rule you out, but check to make sure.

Actually it says Solo Cross-country.

Yea I've soloed three times. I haven't done any cross country work yet. If I continue, I will be flying cross countrys in the next 2 or 3 lessons. Thanks for the help.
