IA what???

Hey all,

I've recently been the center of some "controversy" due to the fact that I've finished my graduate program early and need to get my PRD changed by 7 months in order to process orders and get sent to flight school. The latest word is that the PRD is used to plan far in advance where/when people will go to what command (I had no idea..dumb ensign) and due to that fact they MAY not be sending me directly to flight school! Has anyone ever heard of this happening? The possibility of an IA has been briefly mentioned and, honestly, that would suck right now (when doesn't it?). I was also thinking I might have to do some TAD work somewhere, but I can't imagine I would have to do it anywhere other than Pensacola or at my current command in Atlanta. Please let me know if you've ever heard of this happening or if you know of some TAD stuff alot of ENS are sent to do prior to flight school. Thanks!

Take an IA over being TAD....no, really! It will be a good experience rather than doing stupid office work for 7 months wishing you could start up API. Remember, the answer would be different if it was summertime.

An interesting perspective, I didn't think of it like that! I don't know what my chances of IA are right now, but I'm thinking some TAD might be more plausible. I don't know...anybody ever heard of this happening?

BTW, if I were to IA, what does that entail? Besides going to Iraq, I don't know what an IA really does. I've heard of Prowler guys going to help do some electronic bomb sniffing type ops, but I haven't heard what happens to guys with other/no special skills (ENS). In fact, I've never heard of an ENS having to IA at all...but I guess that's beside the point..

It sounds like the admin types are blowing smoke up your ass. If what you say is true, that you finished early, then you haven't done anything wrong. Somebody is going to have to re-write your orders, and they probably don't feel like it. This shouldn't be a big deal. Just paperwork.

Good luck.

Before the concept of "research" pushed my grad school completion to the latest possible date, I thought I might have had the same situation. I was told to contact the grad schools detailer to have my PRD changed so the flight schools guy could write my orders. I assume you've tried this already, which means they were lying to me or plain wrong. But if you haven't - that's a route to try. I agree with HarrierDude - this sounds like something that a few well-placed phone calls (perhaps placed by your CO/XO) couldn't fix. Keep at it.

Thinking about trying this soon...the issue is that NETPDC has to approve the change and I've had to go through them to get my aviation detailer to change my orders...it's kind of a CF trying to figure this all out...

Afterall, why do stupid office work when you could do stupid office work in the desert. That's what my bud does, middle of Iraq, stupid office work. If I have to do stupid office work, I'd rather do it here than Iraq.

I know that for enlisted guys, when it comes to IA, specialties go right out the window. For example, I knew 2 guys that got sent on IA deployments, one was an AD (Jet Mechanic) and the other was a H-60 aircrewman. They ended up doing MA work, standing gate gaurd at some base over there. Not sure if that type of deal holds true for O's.

Have you talked to your detailer? When my buddies and i did grad work after commissioning, I called the detailer a few months out from finishing. He said, "who the hell are you guys?" and then got us orders to Pcola. PCS orders too.
