IFS ground school

I know this topic has been beat to death before, but I had a more specific question about IFS. I am on PLC air contract and from what I understand, recently a change was made allowing candidates to still do IFS, but it must be in Pensacola or Quantico. My question is will I be doing it during TBS? or is it between TBS and API? Also, could I at least get the IFS ground school portion taken care of while at school even though it would not be at Quantico? I just think it would be nice to study somehting besides accounting during my senior year. Thanks for the help.

You may do IFS before TBS or after TBS. That all depends. Don't worry about getting any ground school done. That is all part of the IFS syllabus and you would have to repeat it. If you are looking for something to study, read a book on aviation. Otherwise, go to Northgate and put a few away. There is plenty to do in CSTX to keep you busy your senior year.

I don't know the details of IFS anymore, but I'd just worry about the accounting. It'd make more sense to wait than have it be taught two different ways in two different places. Just my $0.02.

Drink, the best thing I have ever heard was... "get yours while you can, because the Marine Corps will get theirs, and won't let go." So yea put that accounting to use and find out how many drinks you can buy with the money left in your pocket. You can worry about where you do IFS when you get your orders, because thats when you will know for sure.

BTW, your "specific question" has indeed been beaten to death before. You could, however, ask your OSO about completing IFS prior to commissioning, if that's still allowed.

Is the IFS ground school enough to pass the FAA written exam or is it just enough to pass IFS and know enough to solo? Thanks!

We were told that it would be enough "prep" to be able to take the FAA test with minimal additional work...take that for what its worth though...

In IFS, you'll get the FAR/AIM, which is what the FAA test is based upon. So yes, you should have enough study materials.
