Just a simple question really.....Are there positions that are open here on the mainland?

I have my degree and everything...right now im studying for gmat and still hold an interest in the navy.

If you think you're applying for a 9-5 job where you work in the same office forever, I think you may be in the wrong place. As far as "positions on the mainland" are concerned, about 90% of the Navy is stationed "on the mainland".

Only way you can be guaranteed to be in your state is by joining your guard. But you are subject to deployments at any time. I second what sly said, this isnt a 9-5. Google Oregon National Guard and go from there.

Do yourself a huge favor. Call the local recruiter or go online and look for Navy Officer Programs. There's a whole world waiting for you outside Oregon (or Texas, or New York, or wherever). Whether you stay for one tour or a career, it will be the best time of your life. It will also be the worst time of your life, but the good far outweighs the bad...unless you wake up dead one day.

As a person who comes from the Pac NW, I say take any opportunity to get out of there for a few years. Become a Sailor, Marine, whatever ... just go out and do something different in different parts of the country and world. Not only will you gain priceless work and life experiences, but when you do go back you will truly enjoy how great it is up there.

Most people I talk to as well as myself list "to see the world" as a reason for joining the military, why would you join the military if you wanted to stay at home? (in Oregon of all places :)

So true. You don't know how good you have it in the Pac NW until you have the opportunity to miss it. Great place.
