information warfare officer?

What exactly does an information warfare officer do? I have read the what it says on navy.com and a few other sites but it talks mainly about where they work, what is a no BS explanation of what they do. My friend is applying to be one and he really doesn't know what they do. We work in the same command on the air side of things and we have never met one, thanks guys

Its the new name for the Restricted Line Cryptologic Officer community. They function mainly as officers overseeing linguist activities, communications/signals intercept and analysis, and computer operations.
