Went to see a recruiter today about OCS...

I am a Junior college student at Appalachian State University, and probably have about 2 more years left (from what I have read, this is the time to start the ball rolling on an OCS package). My GPA is a 2.8. From what the recruiter said, I really need a 3.5 or above to be competitive? I am majoring in Biology, which is a BS, not a BA. Does that matter in regards to my GPA?

Anyway, the recruiter told me the best option for me would be to go into the Naval Reserves and submit an STA-21 package. Problem is, I will miss fall semester of this coming school year, which I really cannot do. Is this the right path for me to take with a 2.8 GPA? Being realistic, there is no way I can get to a 3.5 in 2 years with my major.

I would like to think that I could submit an OCS package, see if it gets accepted, and if it does not, reevaluate my options at that point. What do you guys think? Should I even be talking to an Enlisted person at this point or should I be talking to Officers?

Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you're talking to an Enlisted recruiter. I made that mistake, if you want officer make sure you talk to an Officer recruiter. STA-21 is extrememly hard to get from active duty, let alone the reserves.

If you want to become an Officer, you should be speaking with an Officer Recruiter and only an Officer Recruiter. They're a little bit harder to get ahold of, but that is definitely where you need to be.

Edit: a little late there haha

Thanks guys!

I figured this was the case, but when I mentioned to the recruiter that I was interested in only the Officer program, he did not say anything about needing to talk to an officer recruiter.

On the Navy.com website, they have a number listed for calling an officer recruiter, but from what Ive heard, there is another officer recruiting station in another city. Any clue as to where I can find some sort of list of all the recruiting stations?
