Hey what’s going on everyone? I'm currently an AO2 down here Corpus Christi, billeted as a SAMI. Just wrapping up my degree with Saint Leo (last class ends 25JUL) and plan on having package mailed off NLT 01AUG. Here is a little about myself:

Active 7 1/2 years
EAWS Qualed
Currently have a 3.84 GPA (hopefully I don't jack that up my last term!)
Should be graduating Magna Cum Laude
Filling a 1st Class billet for a collateral duty (Major Navy wide program), among many other duties (Training PO, etc)
Active with community service

I'm intending on applying for only SNA when the package goes up.

Only really have two questions:

1. Any advice to help a package stand out for an enlisted guy?
2. Spoke with an aircrew guy from a local squadron today, he told me when he went through his training (Yea I know, it wasn't API) he did his 1 mile swim with just his flight suit, no gear or boots. Is this the same way the test is conducted for API students?

Thanks in advance for everyone's knowledge already up here, and the rest to come!

Good luck, little brother. It's always good to have more prior Ordies in the officer ranks.

Obviously I haven't been through API, but we had to swim it in boots and flight suit when I was in aircrew school. People have enough trouble floating for five minutes with gear on, I doubt they would have to swim a mile in it.

The mile swim is sans boots - was for me in API and NACCS.

I appreciate the responses gentlemen. Hey Brett, thats cool that your an Ordie as well. Your the first I've met who received their commission outside of pursuing being a Gunner! A question for you, when someone submits their package, I know they have to include their enclosures (such as NAM's, LOA's etc), but what about Good Conduct certificates? I had my base YNC tell me not to sweat it, that if the board wants to see it, they can verify against my pg 4. Is there any truth this? Only enclosures (award wise) should be NAM's and above?

I'd follow the STA-21 instruction to the letter. I don't think the presence or absence of a Good Conduct certificate is going to make or break your package. As for other AOs, we're out here. There was another O4 in my airwing (Rhino driver) who was a prior Ordie, P-3 crewman like me, but he got commissioned through the Naval Academy, so that pretty much cancels out any AO street cred he might have had. :D

Don't sweat any API swim quals. They sound tough, and they are challenging, but I've seen dudes that swam as good as cinder blocks get through. They typically have a solid training staff there. Good luck.
