Is it easy to become USMC Pilot?

Is it easier to become a Marine Corp Aviator then becoming an Aviator for the Navy or the Air Force. What are the requirements to become Marine Corp Aviator? Thanks.

Speak with an officer recruiter for each service branch. They will give you all the details and tell you the actual profile (not minimum requirements) of candidates who are currently being selected for aviation. Requirements are very high right now because there are so many people applying.

well it is at least as hard as the navy, because they both train at P-cola, and the air farce doesn't land on boats so i have always thought of navy/marine aviation as more challenging. I think it is harder because you must first withstand the training to become a marine.

You also have to maintain a physical fitness standard, as well as a height/weight standard. It appears as though you can be as wide as you are tall in the Navy. Alot of SNA's get introuble weight-wise while in Pcola, because the first thing they sacrifice when things get busy is their PT program.

I once saw a civilian walk up to a USMC DI and ask him whether it was easy to become a Marine. He looked at him and said "If you're stupid enough to be asking that question, I guarantee it is too hard for you to become a Marine."

As far as the requirements for aviator, you have to have good grades, good ASTB scores, good ASVAB or SAT scores, great vision, great health, a great PFT and great recommendations.

I'm currently trying to get a Navy slot... the Marines have more aviation slots available though, so it's supposed to be a little easier to become an aviator through the Marines.

HA! It may be easier to get an air contract but I'd say the initial training (OCS) is a bit harder with the Marines. The Marines can guarantee more slots because they know people will wash out of OCS. I'm not trying to knock the Navy and I'm sure Navy OCS isn't easy, it's just my take on things. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I meant easier as in, easier to obtain an aviation slot. Not easier in general. I'm currently going the USMC Aviation route (but my preference would be a Navy slot, which I'm applying for also). My boyfriend is in Navy OCS right now and about 1/3 of their class has washed out, so I'd say Navy OCS is pretty hard too. It's definitely not a cake-walk for either.

Asked both the Marine and Navy office... they said that you can apply for both at the same time, you just can't accept both -or- accept one and keep applying for the other.

Is Capt Osvald still the OSO there at UT?
If so, they run a pretty good prep program for OCS. I know of several people that went through it and did just fine. I did the ROTC route there, so I don't have first-hand knowledge, but the majority of UT people I know in the Corps went through the OSO.

On the Marine side, there's SS Garcia and Capt Comunale. Capt Comunale is leaving in August to be the new pilot for Marine 1. Isn't that awesome?! On the Navy side, there's Lt. Brown. Haven't heard of Capt Osvald.

The entire process of becoming a Marine Aviator is not only easy but really fun. OCS is a joke, and yeah, TBS is 6 months long, but it's only that long because they want everything to move at a slow and not too challenging pace for the new Lt's. I'm in week 13 of TBS right now, and so far all we've really learned is dinner etiquette, and got to blow up a bunch of cool stuff! All the stuff you see in the movies that Marines do is true, except in real life it's way more fun! When you get to TBS make sure to ask your SPC (a nice captain who you will be on a first name basis with from day one) if you can be assigned an M-249 SAW! Yeah you will have to carry it on the nature walks but you move at a really slow pace so that you get a good appreciation for Quantico Wildlife, nothing too physically strenuous. A typical day for me consists of showing up at about 8ish, classes until lunch... Then we all go off base to TGI Fridays for lunch, and come back for some PT. Now remember that the Marine Corps only really cares about having you as a pilot, so the pilots only do really laid back PT (touch football, ultimate frisbee) so that noone gets hurt. In any event, we're done with work by 3 PM, and the rest of the day is ours to read, surf the internet, play video games, you name it! It's a great job, and I think I speak for all Marine Officers when I say that I wish TBS went for another 6 months!
