Is this really "normal"?...

Sarah Ruth

IN the Navy and going to OCS at last!
I have final select issues too:

I got my physical at MEPS in October. I'm healthy and my medical history is unremarkable, so that went smoothly. In November, I did the PRT. I got good scores on that. Two months later, I'm still waiting to hear about my final selection.

I check with my recruiter about it every other week or so, and every time, they assure me that it is normal for it to take forever, and that there isn't anything they can do to find out where my paperwork is in the system or even give me any idea on how much longer I'll be hurrying up and waiting.

To make a long story short, I found out (on my own) that "as of January 12" my application is "on hold pending medical review." I was at MEPS three months ago, so does that mean there's a problem?

Since a few people on here have gotten their final selection in a matter of weeks rather than months, I can't help thinking something has gone wrong somewhere. Maybe not, but thanks to my experiences so far I have good reasons to doubt what the recruiters' office says about delays being unavoidable, so I would appreciate it if anyone could advise me on whether to believe that this is normal or not. If it is, what is the average time it takes for someone to get their final selection? If it isn't... ?

Thanks!!

Is it normal, probably not. Then again navy medicine has a tendency to have a strange view of the world. When I did my physical my blood pressure was 120/76. Two months later they made me do a week of blood pressure screenings because my blood pressure was "abnormally high". Last I checked 120/80 was textbook. Anyway, moral of the story is sometimes there is no reason when dealing with navy medicine. Sometimes I think the docs and medical people who do the sceenings for guys getting into OCS and aviation (NAMI whami anyone?) invent problems because they're tired of seeing healthy people.
Unfortunately it's probably going to create one hell of an administrative problem to get corrected. Good luck and hope it all gets straightened out.

I submitted FINDOCS Decmber 22nd and they got to Millington on January 3rd when the stand down ended. I got my Final Select today, 15 days later. The Navy works in mysterious ways with this stuff. I definitely expected to wait a lot longer. Just keep checking in with your recruiter. If nothing else it might light a fire under him to put pressure on the powers that be.

A good Congressional now and then seems to get those little admin details sorted out real quick.
