According to various press reports, Israeli officials have reported that their ship was not hit by a UAV as purported by Hezbollah sources, but by a sophisticated radar-guided missile in a surprise blow by Hezbollah assisted by specially trained Iranian personnel. The explosion killed one Israeli sailor and three are still missing.

Early reporting said an aerial drone packed with explosives was used, but upon investigation it was found that Hezbollah had used a pair of Iranian-made C-802 missiles to strike the vessel late Friday, according to an Israeli intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The source said approx. 100 fighters from Iran's Revolutionary Guard helped import, equip and fire the missiles at the Spear, which was part of a blockade patrolling off the coast of Lebanon. One missile missed, but a second one hit the ship in the vicinity of the hangar deck nearly sinking her. Officials in Tehran have not made any statements despite mention of the attack in Iranian media reports Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Ido Nehushtan of the Israel Defense Force spoke to the Associated Press on Saturday and stated "We can confirm that it (the ship) was hit by an Iranian-made missile launched by Hezbollah. We see this as a very profound fingerprint of Iranian involvement in Hezbollah."

Kinda ironic an Israeli warship gets hit by a Chinese cruise missile...after being a high-tech military arms dealer for the Chinese.

Edit: And apparently the Islamic terrorist fired missile that "missed" ended up trashing an Egyptian-owned merchant vessel. I think that's enough irony for one day.

The missile you have pictured is of the SS-N-2 Styx/Silkworm variety (many different versions). The C-802 is the CSS-N-8 Saccade, which is in the same relative class of the Excocet and Harpoon, description follows and it is relatively accurate:

Egyptian newspaper claims it was the Israelis that hit their merchant ship :icon_roll. Typical BS spread by the government controlled press inthe Mid-East:

Egyptian Vessel Reaches Syria After Accidental Hit By Israeli Missile

Cairo MENA in English 1654 GMT 15 Jul 06

DAMASCUS, July 15 (MENA) - The crew of the Egyptian vessel "Moon Light" earlier hit by Israeli navy by mistake have reached the Syrian sea port of Tartus.

The ship was hit by a missile launched by an Israeli gunboat at the wee hours of Saturday while nearing the northern Lebanese port of Tripoli.

The 12-member crew are slated to return to Egypt soon.

The hit vessel had sent a distress signal and an Egyptian cargo ship "Al-Marwa" went for help.

"Moon Light" was laden with a cement shipment for Syria.
