Sad news, probably an accident but....

Fourteen British troops have died in an aircraft crash in Afghanistan.
The Taliban has claimed it shot down the Nimrod MR2 reconnaissance plane - but the Ministry of Defence says the crash was an accident.
The MoD said those killed were 12 Royal Air Force personnel, one Royal Marine and one Army soldier.

RIP my brothers, your sacrifice will not be forgotten....

When the body sinks into death, the essence of man is revealed. Man is a knot, a web, a mesh into which relationships are tied. Only those relationships matter. The body is an old crock that nobody will miss. I have never known a man to think of himself when dying. Never.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Their loss is a real bummer. I worked with the Nimrod guys when I was on ONW, and was extremely impressed by their talent and professionalism. (To say nothing of their ability to put away amazing quantities of beer.) It was an interesting contrast between the Nimrod crews and the RJ and EP-3 folks - our guys, especially from the CT community, tended to be these 20-25 year olds, whereas their folks seemed to be all grizzled old timers who'd forgotten more Arabic than our guys would ever know. Great sense of humor, too. The capabilities of their back-enders will be sorely missed.
