I'm heading up to Newport for the Jan 19th class. There are a handful of people on the usnavyocs.com forum who will also be joining us, so far though only 8-9 have come forward.

If our class is going to be (or supposed to be) upwards of 30+ people, I can't see how some of these folks have not tried to obtain any information through these mediums and thus come forward in a specific class date thread (such as this one).

I grind 9-10 hour days at work, I work out before and after work (sometimes during lunch too), and I’m trying to learn the big 4 at night before bed. While at work I’m on AW probably hourly looking for the answer to some question or just reading some generally interesting stuff. Needless to say, all of this stuff kind of consumes me. I just don’t see how it can’t for someone who’s about to embark on the same journey as I am. It just seems a little off to me.

Looking forward to meeting you at OCS Skim.

I agree with you. I just left my warehouse job so I can concentrate more on OCS prep and getting in shape come time. I was working 8 hours (0630 to 1430)packing boxes and then came home to run 2-4 miles and then hit the gym to then study gouge. Lets get in contact as the date approaches.

Believe it or not, there are those of us who made it thru OCS with nothing other than what recruiters provided, got in without gouging up the ASTB, and got Pro-Rec and FINDOC without calling the NRD 4x a day..

It can be done.. I'm proof. As are many others on here.

Thats totally true, but on a site with so many users, or in my case, had this site given to me by my OR, I would think there would be more of this class out there. If not, we will meet them there.

Ohh, I'm quite aware that it's possible to get to OCS and through OCS, for lack of a better word, blind, and I'm sure it's done frequently. I didn't join AW until October when I was looking for an answer about PRK, until then I had been denied twice, received my Pro-Rec, and gotten through MEPS, all without "gouging up". Now that I'm going though, I'm taking the steps that I know of to prepare.

Hell, for every question I can find an answer for here, there are 2 more that pop up in it's place. There are definitely pluses and minuses of having all of this kind of information available to you.

But that's just it though, it is available to me, why wouldn't I look at it and search for it? I guess it's a difference in personalities. Sometimes I do wish that I was a little more naive about OCS and life after OCS, as they say "ignorance is bliss".

If someone asked me what are the two best things I learned through AW about applying, prepping, and getting through OCS, I'd say:

1. You need to be in great shape
2. It's gonna svck, no matter how good of shape you are in

And I didn't really need AW to tell me that anyways.

I am just planning on doing lots of PT, keep thinking that this is gonna be worse then hell while hoping for the best, memorize what I need to memorize and just roll with the punches. I think thats the only way I can keep myself from psyching myself out and being a total stress case. Seems to be working so far.

Lovin' life....
Good luck in OCS Skim. I know your DI. I would start the PT'ing now. Trust me... little less gouging.... a lot more pt! It will help when you get to Newport!

Yeah, honestly the knowledge is pretty much unimportant at OCS. Even if you don't know any of it, you'll still be fine for RLP. Not knowing one of the knowledge questions usually was only a single hit. You'll get more points off for total BS "dust on name tag" hits than you will knowledge.

Another lesson you'll soon learn (regret): don't publish on AW when you're going to OCS...
