Japanese 'MMA'

I saw this in Aviation Week and thought it might be of interest to the guys here. The Japanese are not waiting for the MMA to roll out and may be going with their P-X, basically a P-3 with swept wings and jet engines. An interesting avenue to pursue for them, though it sounds a bit like a make work program for the Japanese aerospace industry.

I'm lazy, but not nearly as lazy as the guy who came up with the concept drawing (first small .gif in Flash's first link).

WHATEVER aircraft the Japanese build, and for WHATEVER reason ... they want "back" into the aviation game in the worst possible way ... both civilian and military.

And .... it's in their national interest.

Watch out ... Red China. :)

"In photos posted to the TRDI Web site, the C-X appears similar to the 1970s-built Kawasaki C-1 transport plane. The photos show a conventional military transport design with two turbojet engines slung under a high wing, a fuselage with a pressurized flight deck and cargo hold, and a rear loading ramp that can be opened in flight."

Description and gif in the article sure don't match the photo. Tail and wing look Convair 880 like with a P-3/Nimrod double bubble fuselage. Strange craft.

This is the C-X (very similar to their C-1):

.... Strange craft.
(slight threadjack -- but not really)

The Japanese have always had a proclivity for "strange craft"-ness and innovation, in particular in naval architecture .... check out their "sensei (sic) of humor" in this particular offering ..... IJN BB ISE (after conversion) .... note pagoda superstructure and "flight deck" aft .... :)

IJN ISE after 1943-44 conversion (top). ISE under attack by USN bombers @ Cape Enga

Inscrutable.

Looks like a "small" C-17 and a P-3 out of a mad wind tunnel experiment... :) ... commercially speaking, "our" biggest fear for Boeing was the Japanese aircraft industry when they mastered the engine and the wing. Seems simple enough .... but ... as long as "we" continue to provide "them" with defective rivets ... ???

I love the blame game from Flash's linked article ...
