Based off that article I bet it was the work of the SP's...:)

So that's what happened to that big Estes kit I launched. I knew I should have stuck with the 'S' motor for the first flight.

It's "almost" News.:D

Imagine the big hoopla if it had hit the A/C. Every news channel would have missle experts on all night. And everyone would say that it was only the kooks who believed it was a space rock.

It's gettin' a bit dramatic 'round here...

Have seen this on two occasuions...once a meteorite flashed so brightly in amongst the marshall stack, that we called for a fuel status check to do a head count. My cockpit literally flashed like a flashbulb went off.

Other time was on YPs off eastern shore of the Del Marva peninsula. A rocket launched out of Wallops Island and broke up on launch. Flashes, explosions, stuff in the sky all around and over us. USCG was involved in this, too.

The mids thought something had exploded. I was in charge of all 7 YPs and get called to the bridge at about 0330 and hear talk of explosions and smoke on the radios...crap...there goes my career. I look left and right all YPs are okay...

Ahhh just space junk.

Schnugg is right. The first time I saw it was on a late night over New Mexico heading into Cannon AFB. The brightness is exactly as described; like a flashbulb going off. I was amazed at how many calls ATC got over the next 30 seconds. We couldn't hear the pilot's calls, since we were UHF only, but we could sure hear the controller's non-stop replies.
