Joint Custody Question

So I'm in Canada right now about to try and get something worked out re custody status of my 2.5 year old. I'm trying to establish joint custody (though he will live with his mother mostly in Canada). Anyone know how this would work out w/ regard to my OCS Air application? Do they prefer that the mother has full custody or does it matter? Thx........

Shouldn't matter. Like I said before, they may have you and the mother sign paperwork delineating who will care for the child during deployments and what not. Then again, if she has physical custody, you could probably just state that and not worry about it. Just tell your OSO your situation and they'll do what is necessary.

If you want to ensure access to your kid and a say in his/her life - never give up joint legal custody.

Also, don't forget that legal custody and physical custody are too different animals. Some try to lump the two together. This is just a lawyer trick to try and f'you out of your legal custody.
