Just an (unscientific) poll...

Sarah Ruth

IN the Navy and going to OCS at last!
I just found out this week that I've been board-recommended for NFO, and am working on getting the medical paperwork done (my medical history is extremely uneventful, so I hope that helps); but I can't get any kind of idea on when I might actually start OCS beyond "it might be soon, it might be months from now" The recruiter's secretary told me it could be a year.

Of course I understand why my recruiter doesn't want to hazard a guess on that, since wacky things can happen to delay the process for great lengths of time (as I know all too well from experience!) But I'd like to poll the pilots and NFO's on this board to get an idea on this: After you found out you had the recommendation, how much time went by before you actually started OCS? Does it take longer to get in the Navy if you choose an aviation career over something like Intel (my other choice)?

I greatly appreciate any input! :)

Hey, well, I can tell you, that there is some variation to the process, or the order that you go through the process to get a final OCS date. You will need to complete your physical, get lab results, then take a PRT, and send the whole package away to get a final OCS date. Then you will need to be sworn in.

I would guess that it will be at least a month, but no limit as to the longest time.... but it won't a year!

When I sent in my package (after I completed all paperwork, PRT and etc.) they replied about 2 weeks later and told me I had to be in Pensacola in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the responses! It's definitely heartening to know it likely won't be a year now :)

It took me abour 1 month from Pro-Rec to Final Select. If you have any female-related questions about OCS feel free to PM me. I just graduated about a month ago. Good Luck.
