Well, i studied for over 4 weeks . . . Gouge, ARCO, Cliff, Nautical Info Websites, and the FAA Pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge.

I took FORM 5:

Overall, I think the test was not to hard at all. The math was easier than on Gouge and Arco . . . it was all simple algebra. However, I almost ran out of time on the math. Reading was a little tougher than i thought, in all the study guides there is a wide variety of questions for the reading. However, on the actual test it was ONLY question such as 36 and 37 in cliff, and 26 -30 in the ARCO. You will be pressed for time on this section as well, some of them can be tricky but most are simple (just read them twice and then look at the answers). The mechanical (which was is my weakest when studying) was fairly easy and simple, just understand MA (mechanical advantage) and other basics and you should be fine. The Spacial Appreception part was VERY EASY i finished in 6 mins and had 4 mins to review them. I dont think i missed one, one or two were a little bit more tricky than those in the ARCO and Gouge. Just as a side note i do not have a pilots liscense nor have i got much substanial flight time (four hours). however, i think what helped me most on the spatial was games. I play microsoft combat flight simulator and IL2 sturmovik (awesome game) a lot and that made it easy. The aviation nautical was almost identical to what you study in the gouge; however, i would have to say that by studying the FAA pilots handbook i knew at least four i would not have othewise. There was only one question on weather. the questions were split pretty much 50/50 on aviation and nautical. for nautical go to this website and you will know everything you need to know:http://www.boat-ed.com/wa/course/p1-3_boatparts.htm use the pull down menu on the left and read through the chapters 1-4 and you'll be good. know bouys and right of way. be prepared for one - two random questions. Lastly, the aviation supp. was probably the hardest section just because of all the variety and the aviation nautical questions get a little harder. Anyways, thanks a lot for all of ya'lls help, it made my first time taking it much easier than i thought it would be. I get my scores back in a week i am shooting for 7/7/7 OAR 60+ but you never know. I will let you all know how i did when i get it back. Good luck!

Geese

You guys are dangerous.
Sounds good. How long did they tell you it takes to get the results? They told me 2 weeks.

I took it in Gainesville, FL. Pensacola is probably equal between Gainesville and where you are in GA. It only took a week to get my results back.

So has the Navy changed the tests again? I took it in November (04') and they gave me my scores 5 minutes after I took it.

Did you take the computer version? I'd imagine that you get your results from the computer version immediately, but the pencil/paper version has to be sent off to be scored, and takes 1-2 weeks to get the results back.

When I took the computer version in January I received my scores right after finishing the test. Either way, let us know how you did!

New to the site; just took the ASTB

Well I'm new here so I look forward to getting all the insight and taking to you guys. I just took the ASTB today and I was a little suprised how hard it seem to be. Maybe its just me but I took a practice test last fall with the navy though an expirimantal program (testing old/new ASTBs for the future) And I got 445 47oar. I have no clue how I did on this one. I found the mech comp to be rather easy and the areo/nautical knowledge to be very easy (Got some flight time towards my license) However the verbal was a dog and the spatial apperation threw me a tad off (even as a pilot) What are the mins for pilot and NFO. Especialy NFO since I can't find anything on their reqs. Thanks!! ~Tony
