Just wanted to say thanks

I've been lurking around here on and off for a little while, and the information about the ASTB was very useful - much more so than anything in the Arco book that I bought (I didn't expect it to be too useful, but I figured that it wouldn't hurt my performance).

I took form 3 and got a 7 7 8 64 - I personally think that I could have done better than that, but my recruiter was pleased with the results, so I'm not going to bother taking it again... I had to take a one-hour drive down to the nearest NRD office to take the test.

Is there anything in particular that you would reccomend for someone who hasn't taken the test yet?

Practice doing the questions as quickly as possible. The time constraint was the biggest obstacle for me when I took the tests.

Also, use the Search function and gouge provided here on AW.

Yeah, I'll agree with FastMover on that (even if he is a Gator... ) - I couldn't do one of the math problems because I didn't have enough time... and I definitely didn't have time to check my answers on that part (not that I do, normally).

To be honest, though, I had a pretty good grasp of most of the stuff on the test from high school and college courses - and I'm pretty decent with standardized tests (1420 SAT, 218 PSAT - National Merit Scholar :)).

Practice the Spacial Apperception Test a bit, too - it's not hard, but it takes some getting used to, especially if you don't fly; furthermore, you have to do each question on that test pretty quickly, and practice definitely helps to identify the correct orientation more quickly.

If you have the time, read up on how aircraft and ships work (components and what they do, running lights, runway numbering, etc.) and the basic history of the Navy as well - there were a few questions about that, if I remember correctly.

Glad the site helped, and that you did well on the test. Best of luck with the package.

My thanks as well...

Many thanks to this site and the people on it who take the time to give advice, info, and PMs.

Although I didn't do as well as I wanted on the ASTB...especially compared to the stats of this group...my recruiter says that my score is "competitive" when part of a whole package. (I don't know about you, but to me that means "do over.")

My 2 cents on the test is to time yourself when practicing. I noticed that it took me longer to work the test on a computer (perhaps because it kept getting error messages and we had to restart it...). I ran out of time on the math, but I did well on the other sections.

For me, it was just wierd to test on a computer.
