LA judge stops foster kid's enlistment

She needs to be kicked off the bench. That is an unbelievable egregious abuse of power.
I thought the judges in the foster care system existed to protect the desires and well being of the children. I can think of many cases where foster parents have treated their foster children much worse than the Marine Corp would. Her personal views on the matter at hand should have absolutely no bearing on her decisions. I agree with CM, kick her off the bench.
Perhaps this kid can petition for emancipation and then join. I doubt the courts could stop his enlistment then...

This kid is going to join the Corps either way. If the judge lets him do it now, he gets $10k and a guarunteed shot at a MOS. If he does it later, then none of that applies.
All this judge is doing is screwing over what would otherwise be a great opportunity for someone who has it "figured out" a little earlier than most.

Assuming this idiot's point of view is correct, and the Marine Corps is a "big bag thing"..... if it's legal for 17 year olds to enlist, and he WANTS to enlist, then it is absolutely abusing her power to let her own personal bias detract her from her legal obligations. It's not her job to play protester from the bench, it's her job to decide what's in the best interest of the child.
