Lake Havasu detachment

I couldn’t find much about detachments on the quick search so figured I ask on here. There’s a handful of us as Whiting that will be getting sent to Lake Havasu for all of our contact flights and possibly some forms. Looking for general information/expectations/advice from those who were sent on other detachments. We’re not being told much right now other than our dates. Thanks in advance.

This is a great question for your onwing.

Enjoy one of the best deals You're going to get in your career.
I agree, it would be a great question for them but we haven’t been assigned yet. Hopefully soon !

Otherwise that’s good news to hear, thanks for the response.

Historically, they sent students on training dets that were in mid- to late-stage Contacts, then you might continue with PAs and Forms. If they plan to send brand new FAM-1 students there then....yikes, good luck. I can't imagine how they would rank people through MPTS that way.

The positives of doing your early FAMs at home is there's structure and it's a pretty insulated environment where you can focus on procedures without having to worry about external variables.

The positives of doing early FAMs on a det is you get to start flying in the real world right off the bat.

The basic question I'd see if you can find out at your squadron is when are you being sent in the syllabus, vs when you're being sent on the calendar.

Hangar 24 is on the airport.
My favorite brewery in America. Their Orange Wheat was their first beer and got them on the map.

I visited their original brewery in Redlands a ways back, great beers and great scene. Like that the brewery, at least the original one, is in a former hangar.

I also visited their Orange County location, great food!

I don't have any gouge on Havasu, but my Primary det in 2011 to La Cruces, NM was one of those times I wouldn't trade for the world. Chill vibes, per diem, living in a hotel with everyone, great weather, great morale. Glad CNATRA is keeping them going when WX back home is soul crushing.

When I was in Corpus, some of my friends went on the det to Roswell, NM. They said it was the wild west (literally and figuratively). No course rules, just take off and get right into it. They flew a lot, almost every day, compared to the people who stayed back, but it sounded like it was pretty chill and well worth it.

Thats reassuring to hear, thanks for the info. Although it was a while ago at a different location, do you have any tips/advice that you wish you knew or did differently during your detachment.

I've been where you are and I've been a VT IP. You're overthinking it. Just be prepared with standard stuff (FTI, NATOPs, etc). You'll get the download on course rules when you get there (they might not even be written yet).

Or ever.

Pure curiosity from me...I never did a Whiting dedicated DET, only supported a Corpus DET. How did Whiting's STAN hold up while on DET?

Corpus STAN was "interesting" at the time to begin with, and even more "interesting" while at LRU.
