LASIK: a possibility?

Just wanted to get a thread started on LASIK and the Military's R&D on it. A friend and I were talking the other day and we both thought that LASIK will be allowed for military aviation some day.

I'm sure that there are websites out there that discuss this, so if you want to post them then that would be appreciated. But like I said, I just want to see what others think about the possibility of LASIK being introduced as the military's new form of corrective eye surgery one day.

Have at it! Thanks.

i was under the impression that the main concern was the potential seperation of the microkeratome (stromal flap) due to aviation related stress...although unlikely if you ask any surgeon, but hey who am i to say

Thats what I was talking about too. I don't know. We'll see what the future holds.

I know that the Navy did a number of tests, on naval aviators, to determine that prk surgery would not be a problem for pilots in the long run, under conditions of flight stress. I think I also read that similar testing is also being conducted but that it just hasn't come along to the finish line, or maybe it never will. If you research this site, I got all that information from links here, last fall.

I do not remember, but they were likely all from this website. You know, one problem with the internet is it is almost impossible to keep a good record of all the sites you visit. I'll try and search through the site right now and find something useful.
