Last OCS class of the year?

My application isn't going to go in until October because my recruiter couldn't get me in on the Sept VIP tour. Do they break in taking OCS classes after a certain period for Thanksgiving/New Year's, or do they take you whenever?

it sounds more likely that he doesn't want to put in your app. due to it being the end of the fiscal year when available slots are low and money is tight. You typically have much better odds at the beginning of the fiscal year (after Oct 1st) than you do at the end.

No. He just went on vacation for the month of August, and the VIP tour for Sept was the very first weekend after he got back. According to him, Nuke candidates aren't affected by the time of year they apply, anyway.

Regardless, my app isn't going in until after Oct anyway, so that still doesn't answer my question: does OCS "break" for the holidays?

OCS has traditionally given leave during the holiday periods.

May I ask where you're getting this gouge? I've heard otherwise.

Yeah I've also heard the exact opposite, that is odds are better at the end of the FY due to quota numbers, drop outs, and just having to fill slots, although the more I think about it I'm sure they don't have any trouble doing that...

I got this from recruiters who have told me that if a given number of slots available are filled in a fiscal year, then there are NONE left until the new year. you know... 2+2=4?

Bad gouge. Do you seriously think they would hold boards early in the FY and give out all these slots only to reach the end of the FY and be like "oh shit, we ran out of spots"? The Navy isn't THAT f@cked up.

On a side note, did you graduate today?

Classes start year-round.

I was there from September to December of last year. For Thanksgiving, training stopped for a 4 day weekend, but you didn't get to go home. Candidates early in the training were still stuck doing the OCS/RLP drill. If your class had secured, you could get liberty and chill out slightly more. For Christmas/New Years, everyone was allowed to go home, but you didn't know exactly when until after you were there (couldn't buy your tickets ahead of time). It may work slightly differently in RI, but I assume it'll be similar.

That's because you were applying for an NFO slot.

Recruiter sent me an email, which he sent to all his potentials, that the fiscal year was ending in Sept. I then replied asking if this affected anything, and he said it was a form letter and that nuke candidates aren't really affected by it.

You just totally lost me.

# of people going for NA/NFO slots >>>>> number of people going for NTO slots. Yes, the nuke spots could fill up, but from what I've been told it doesn't happen as often. They also just raised the bonuses NTO's get because they are still coming up short. That's why you NA/NFO guys compete against each other when you apply, whereas we're applying against a standard the Navy is looking for.

They are different jobs with different application process.
