Are there regs on taking leave while in A-pool? I'm not getting house hunting leave from my command, so I'm going to check in early, and start looking for a place to live befor by report NLT date. I'd still like to take some leave after that, though, but before the report date in my orders (haven't been home since last Xmas). Anyone know of any restrictions or guidance?

Then again, maybe I can get some OHARP? That would rock! It would probably screw me in the long run, but it would still rock.

Don't waste leave for house hunting... you are going to have plenty of time to wonder around the area and find a house. A-pool is a paid vacation.

As far as leave in general... I know a year and a half ago, guys were alowed to take leave while in the pool.

bch...don't worry, I'm not planning on taking leave to find a place to live. I want to drive down to p-cola, check in, and then start looking for a house. Once I find a place to live, though, THAT's when I want to take leave and go home.

I thought I read somewhere that you had to jump through some wickets before you were allowed to take leave, though. Things like BOLT or BOLC or whatever they're calling it this week (can I please be excused? I've already done two at-sea divo tours), PRT, other stuff I can't remember. Any of this sound familiar?

If i remember correctly you had to do BOLTC, the in PRT, a swim test and IFS if you havent done it. If they have a start date for you and you're done with all that stuff it was usually granted back when i went through. I'd recommend asking about it early and time it right so that you wont get a stash job assigned when you're supposed to take leave. This was over a year ago so it may have changed.

IFS? That's just for pilots, right? I'm SNFO. PRT? Sure, no problem. Swim test? Ditto. BOLTC? How long is that? Is it mostly sea stories or do they actually teach you stuff?

I'm a pilot in a-pool and my roommate is an NFO in API right now. When he started API they were sending NFOs to IFS here. Apparently they found money. Not sure if they're still doing it, but when I finished IFS a month ago my instructor said they were sending NFOs there to do IFS. As far as I know they still are. I'm in BOLTC right now, and its pretty boring. Depends on the instructor, some days are sea stories, others are informational stuff...like Fitreps and such. Its a weeklong course.

I am snfo also and have been trying to get into IFS. They have not made a decision yet as to whether they are going to have the budget to send snfos through the program. That was the story as of yesterday when I last called.
